Car Logger

Hardartcore built the Car Logger app as a free app, with no ads. This page explains what data the app handles, where it is kept, and how you can delete it.

Information I collect

None. Car Logger has no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party tracking, and I do not run a server for it. I never receive or see any of your data.

Data stored on your device

Everything you enter (your cars, fill-ups, expenses, odometer readings, reminders and receipt photos) is stored in the app's private storage on your device. Receipt photos are copied into the app when you attach them. Android's own automatic backup is turned off for the app.

Google sign-in and the Drive backup

Signing in with your Google account is optional and only needed for the backup. When you sign in, the app uses Google sign-in to identify your account and asks for access to the app data folder of your own Google Drive (the drive.appdata permission). This is a private, hidden folder that only Car Logger can use: the app cannot see, read or change any other file in your Drive.

The app keeps one backup file of your records there, replaced each time it uploads, and offers it back when you sign in on a new or reinstalled device. The backup lives in your Google Drive and is handled by Google under the Google Privacy Policy. It is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.

Importing from other apps

When you import a CSV file exported from another app, such as Fuelio, the file is read on your device only.

Permissions

  • Internet and network state: for Google sign-in and the Drive backup.
  • Notifications: for the renewal and service reminders you set up.

Deleting your data

  • Deleting a car in the app deletes its whole history.
  • Uninstalling the app deletes everything stored on your device.
  • To delete the Drive backup, open Google Drive on the web, go to Settings → Manage apps, find Car Logger and choose Delete hidden app data.

Children's privacy

Car Logger is not directed at children under 13, and I do not collect information from anyone, including children.
